History
BRC has been serving the Louisiana legal profession for more than two decades. Our 20th anniversary was celebrated in July 2001. Since its inception, the school has developed several innovative curriculum concepts while it pays close attention to the needs and changes in the law profession. One of the most outstanding features of the College is the number of Louisiana attorneys who have taught for the school.
More than 200 licensed attorneys have shared their knowledge with our students. These attorneys have made recommendations for improvement over the years that have resulted in a unique paralegal curriculum. The large number of attorneys has led to a network of support for the College and its graduates in the law community. Many of these attorneys have assisted the students with obtaining jobs and providing valuable career advice. Some of the most successful attorneys in Louisiana have taught for BRC. Many paralegal schools hire attorneys who do not practice law to work full time as teachers. We have chosen to hire practicing successful attorneys to be a part of our adjunct faculty because they provide our students with the most recent subject content and real-life experiences that prove to be more educational than a printed textbook.
BRC is proud of its student job placement in numerous law firms. The internship aspect of the paralegal program, which is supervised by attorneys, provides on-the-job training and employment opportunities.
In 2000, BRC introduced a seminar program designed to provide the legal community with current information in numerous topics relating to current law. The seminar program is unique to Louisiana schools and possibly to schools around the entire country. The seminars also allow BRC to bring attorneys into the school who would not otherwise have time to teach an extended course. Most recently, the school developed one of the largest attorney email lists in the state to announce the seminars. This email system is also used to recruit adjunct teachers and provide prospective employers with graduates seeking employment. Announcements are sent to approximately more than 40% of all attorneys in some cities.
We are also proud of the open communication between our students, staff and faculty. I am available to students at all times, and many, if not most, of the attorneys who teach for the school provide their office phone numbers or their home numbers. If a student has a problem with course work, they can find assistance readily available to them.
